Description
Raspberry Pi Foundation has developed a cheap, small and energy efficient single board computer called Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W. Released in October 2021, it is the successor to the Raspberry Pi Zero W and represents a big leap in processing performance, while keeping the same small form factor. The Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W is an embedded system for Internet of Things (IoT) applications, robotics, smart home automation, portable devices, industrial monitoring and educational projects. It is light weight, low power consumption and wireless connectivity so it is perfect for applications where space and energy efficiency is key.
The Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W is equipped with a 1 GHz 64-bit Quad-Core Arm Cortex-A53 processor. The processor offers about 5x the performance of the original Raspberry Pi Zero W, resulting in smoother multitasking and faster program execution. Board has 512 MB LPDDR2 SDRAM, enough for light operating systems, IoT applications, manipulation of sensor data and embedded computing.
The Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W has a very important feature — wireless communication. It supports IEEE 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz) for reliable wireless networking of Internet-connected applications. The board also features Bluetooth 4.2 and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), for communication with wireless peripherals such as keyboards, mice, sensors, smartphones and IoT devices. These wireless features remove the need for additional communication modules in many projects.
It has a 40-pin General Purpose Input/Output (GPIO) header, compatible with other Raspberry Pi models. The header is unpopulated by default, but if users want to they can solder in pins. The GPIO interface allows easy connection of sensors, relays, LCD displays, motors, LEDs, cameras and other electronic modules with I²C, SPI, UART, PWM and GPIO digital input/output communication protocols.
For multimedia applications the board has a Mini HDMI port with support for Full HD 1080p video output. It also features a CSI camera connector that allows users to connect the official Raspberry Pi Camera Module for image processing, surveillance and computer vision applications. There's a Micro-USB OTG port for connecting USB peripherals with an adapter and a separate Micro-USB port for power input.
The Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W relies on a MicroSD card for primary storage of the operating system and user data. It supports multiple operating systems including Raspberry Pi OS, Ubuntu, DietPi and other Linux based distributions.
